Indonesian Heritage Society

The Indonesian Heritage Society is a non-profit yayasan founded in 1970 and dedicated to supporting and sharing Indonesia's cultural heritage. It runs from the 17th floor of Sentral Senayan 1 on Jl. Asia Afrika, next to Plaza Senayan, and has grown from an original group of 17 to a community of hundreds of members drawn from many nationalities. For newly arrived expats it is one of the most reliable ways to meet people while actually learning something about the country.

Activities are wide-ranging and largely volunteer-led. The society trains and provides English-language docents for museum tours, most famously at the National Museum, and organises study groups, an evening Night Study Group, a lecture series, heritage and explorer tours to sites around Java and beyond, school programmes, and language workshops in French, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Members also get access to the society's library, and signature social events such as Selamat Datang and Blue Lotus mark the start of the season.

Membership is priced separately for individuals, families, youth under 25 and overseas members, and everyone is welcome regardless of nationality or background.
