The German School Jakarta (Deutsche Schule Jakarta, DSJ) has been educating children in Jakarta since 1956 and now occupies a green 42,000 m² campus on Jalan Puspa Widya in central BSD City, South Tangerang. The school has around 330 students from more than 20 countries and describes itself as the only native German school in Indonesia. It is recognised by the German authorities as an "Excellent German School Abroad", a quality seal it has held since 2008.
Children can start in early education from the age of two and continue through primary and secondary school to the German International Abitur (DIA), a school-leaving diploma recognised worldwide that also gives direct entry to German universities. Teaching is in German, English and Indonesian, with French also offered. There are two paths: a German-International Program for German-speaking children, and an International Program for families with no German, which builds on English and Indonesian and adds intensive German until students join the German curriculum around Grades 5 and 6. The school reports a 99% Abitur pass rate over the past 13 years.
The campus has a sports field and running track, a swimming pool, a sports hall and tennis courts, and the school runs strong sports, music and drama programmes, including a football academy. Published fees for the International Program start at around IDR 42.7 million a year for early childhood and rise to around IDR 244.7 million for secondary school; the German Program starts at around IDR 165.9 million. Admission and enrolment fees are extra, so check the school's current fee schedule. The office is open Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 16:00, and campus tours can be booked in advance.
