International Schools

Choosing a school is usually the first big decision an expat family makes about Jakarta, and it decides where you live and how long your commute is.

The schools here teach the IB, the English curriculum (IGCSE and A-Levels), American programmes with AP, or the Australian curriculum. Look for CIS or WASC accreditation and SPK licensing, which lets a school enrol foreign students.

Most are in South Jakarta (Cilandak, Pondok Indah, Pejaten) or the Bintaro–BSD corridor. Drive the route at 7am before you sign a lease.

By area: in South Jakarta, Jakarta Intercultural School is in Cilandak, Australian Independent School in Pejaten and Mentari Intercultural School in Cipete. British School Jakarta and the IB continuum Global Jaya School serve Bintaro, ACS Jakarta East Jakarta, and North Jakarta Intercultural School Kelapa Gading and the north. In Central Jakarta, Gandhi Memorial Intercontinental School in Kemayoran offers the full IB continuum without the drive south.

In BSD City, the German School Jakarta teaches to the German International Abitur, with an International Program that brings children with no German up to speed. Back in Cipete, French School Jakarta (the Lycée Français) follows the French national curriculum from age 2, with a bilingual French-English programme and intensive French for newcomers.
