North Jakarta Intercultural School (NJIS) opened in January 1990 and moved to its current 20,000 m2 campus on Jl. Boulevard Bukit Gading Raya in Kelapa Gading in 2012. It is the principal international school serving North Jakarta, taking students from nursery at age two through to Grade 12, and remains deliberately small - a few hundred students drawn from around 16 nationalities, with class sizes that suit families who want a close-knit setting.
NJIS is a full IB continuum school, authorised for the Primary Years Programme, the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme, delivered within an American-style school structure. Grade 11 and 12 students can take the full IB Diploma, individual IB courses alongside the school diploma, or the school diploma alone. The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Campus facilities include a performing arts centre, library, science and STEM laboratories, an indoor gym, swimming pool, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, a climbing wall, dance room and on-site clinic. For expat families based in Kelapa Gading, Sunter or PIK, NJIS removes the long commute south, and a 5% sibling discount is offered.
