The Institut Français d'Indonésie (IFI) is the official French cultural and language institute in Indonesia, operating under the French Embassy. Its main Jakarta branch is at Jalan MH Thamrin No. 20 in Gondangdia, Menteng, Central Jakarta, and a second branch, IFI Wijaya, is at Jl. Wijaya I No. 48 in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
IFI teaches French to a European curriculum, and its in-person classes are open at every level. Adults can choose an extensive course (60 hours over 15 weeks, two 2-hour or one 4-hour class a week), a semi-intensive course (60 hours over six weeks), an intensive course (120 hours over six weeks) or a super-intensive course (120 hours over four weeks). There are also classes for children and teenagers, professional and themed classes, private lessons, company and institutional classes, online courses and the self-study Frello programme. IFI states that it is the only institution in Indonesia authorised to run the international French certification exams, and it holds regular DELF and DALF sessions.
The Thamrin building also has an auditorium used for French films, concerts and festivals, and a médiathèque with books, magazines, CDs, films, board games and a children's corner; its opening hours are posted on the IFI website. IFI members get access to the médiathèque, discounts at IFI partners and the Culturethèque online library. Course enquiries can be made by WhatsApp or by email.
