Indonesian immigration is not a system to learn by trial and error, and nearly every long-term foreign resident uses an agent.

Government immigration offices: stay permits are handled by the immigration office for the district where you live. The South Jakarta Immigration Office on Jl. Hj. Tuty Alawiyah covers Kebayoran, Cilandak, Setiabudi, Tebet and six other districts, with service points in Pondok Indah Mall 3, Lippo Mall Kemang and Kebayoran Park. The Central Jakarta Immigration Office in Kemayoran covers Menteng, Tanah Abang, Gambir and the rest of Central Jakarta, and the West Jakarta Immigration Office on Jl. Pos Kota covers Kembangan, Kebon Jeruk, Palmerah, Grogol Petamburan, Tambora and Taman Sari.
